Dona Maria Wines Portugal

Dona Maria Wines is a Portuguese winery with history, located in a small Alentejo village on an 18th century manor estate with more than 80 hectares of vineyards.

King John V bought the estate for his mistress, Dona Maria, and built the baroque palace in the early 18th century. In 1980 Julio Bastos started the winemaking exploitation of the estate and in 2003 he restored the winery and started this new project, where he combines winemaking tradition and excellence, making wines with the know-how of past generations.

The palace has been restored respecting the original architecture, the Italian decorative details and some baroque elements. The marble wine presses where grapes are still crushed in the traditional way, the chapel consecrated in 1752, the historic gardens and the main hall with its baroque frescoes have all been preserved.
