One of today’s most successful conductors
Chief conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic, music director of the Orchestre de Paris and artistic partner of the Concertgebouworkest. At the age of 27, cellist and conductor Klaus Mäkelä is considered one of the most successful conductors of his generation.
Born of musician parents, his father as a cellist and his mother as a pianist, he trained as a cellist from an early age and began studying conducting at the age of 12 under the guidance of Jorma Panula, renowned conducting teacher, at the Sibelius Academy.
He made his debut as a conductor at the Oslo Philharmonic in 2018, with the concert of the 7th symphony by Sibelius, Finland’s most important composer. A music close and natural for him with which he has grown up but which he considers a challenge because of his personality and great artistic evolution. After the concert, the conductors were so impressed that they offered him the tenure of the Oslo Philharmonic, which he still holds today. Since then, he has been part of prestigious orchestras and performances, becoming one of the most successful conductors of the moment. The OP Group Art Foundation has provided the cello on which he plays, a Giovanni Granzino from 1698.
We share a common understanding of music as a form of expression. The beauty of inheritance between generations. The effort and satisfaction of turning your passion into your work.
