An icon of 20th century architecture

Italian architect, sculptor and designer, Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) is anundoubtedly an icon of Italian architecture.
Mangiarotti is one of the founders of the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI). He saw architecture from a practical and rigorous approach; and considered industrial design as a craft always focused on functionality.

He graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and in 1948 he was in charge of the assembly of the Triennale Milano. He later worked in the United States where he met other important 20th century architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann. In 1955 he returned to his hometown and founded his own architectural studio with Bruno Morassutti, developing projects in residential, industrial and product design.

The next stage of his life, he focused mainly on sculpture and product, creating iconic designs such as the Eros table or the Tre3 chair for the firm Agape; the Lesbo luminaire for Artemide; and numerous sculptures now exhibited around the world. Throughout his career, he has taught at universities in different cities such as Chicago, Hawaii, Adelaide, Lausanne, Venice and Milan, as well as giving numerous lectures and seminars internationally.

We share the balance between aesthetics and functionality; the aim of improving people’s lives.
