History, fashion, art and architecture in a former distillery of 1910
The Milan headquarters of Fondazione Prada is located in Largo Isarco, an industrial district of the city far from the tourist center. A former 1910 gin distillery converted into a place where history, fashion, art and architecture come together.
Fondazione Prada was founded in 1993 by Miuccia Prada and her husband Patrizio Bertelli to promote culture and contemporary art. Its headquarters building in Milan, inaugurated in 2018, is a must-see for design lovers. A project by OMA studio led by architect Rem Koolhaas in which the seven buildings that make up the former distillery coexist in harmony with three new ones: Podium, Cinema and Tower; turning the foundation into one of the city’s most outstanding cultural spaces.
A glass elevator that offers stunning views of the entire city gives access to the permanent collection that exhibits different works of art from the 20th century to the contemporary. It also has a children’s area and a cinema. Bar Luce restaurant, designed by Wes Anderson, incorporates elements characteristic of his films, transporting visitors to the 50s and 60s.
We share the beauty of combining art and architecture, the balance between antique and modern. The respect for history and the way of keeping the essence of the past.
