France | Giverny
His house, his gardens; his inspiration
The source of inspiration for the Impressionist painter Claude Monet is located in the French region of Normandy. An estate in Giverny which was the painter’s summer retreat with his family, a meeting point between art and nature. Monet made this place a paradise that later became the family residence. When he spent long periods away, he would ask for his flowers in his letters to the family. The painter never left Giverny until his death in 1926.
It was not until 1980, after the death of his son, that the Claude Monet Foundation was created and his house was opened to the public. A colourful family home with outstanding rooms such as a large yellow dining room, and a kitchen, tiled with Rouen blue tiles. The decoration includes a selection of copies of his most famous works.
The garden Le Clos Normand, which surrounds the house, is framed by arches and flowers, from the wildest to the simplest, and offers views and paths to his home. Crossing a small tunnel, we find a different garden, perhaps the most famous, in which through different green bridges we reach a large lake in which water lilies take centre stage. The landscape designers of the foundation use his works to maintain the aesthetics of the place almost identical to the way the painter lived it.
We share the beauty of places that tell a story and the love for nature. The search for inspiration in everything that surrounds us.
