Located in the historic centre of Catania, overlooking the ancient Roman amphitheatre of Piazza Stesicoro, is ELLE Dimora di Sicilia, a small hotel with just three suites that recovers the character of a Sicilian dimora.
ELLE was created in 2023 by its owner, Leandra Romeo, as a very personal project. Original elements, such as the Teste di Moro on the terrace, have been restored, and traditional materials, such as Sicilian pietra pece, have been used, alongside antique and contemporary pieces, custom-designed furniture and pieces made by local artisans.
Each of its three suites —Incanto, Anfiteatro and Dioniso— has its own identity. Antique Sicilian terracotta floors, sculptures and references to the classical world are combined with soft colours and contemporary elements. The Incanto suite preserves an original 18th-century hand-painted ceiling, with bird motifs reminiscent of those at Palazzo Biscari in Catania. At the top of the house, there is a terrace conceived as an outdoor living room overlooking the Roman amphitheatre, where breakfast is served every morning, prepared with local products.
